The 3 C's of Capital Campaign Committees

imageFacing a capital campaign can be daunting in itself, but facing the responsibility of constructing a campaign steering committee might seem like a Himalayan task. Luckily, keeping in mind the 3 C's will help you choose the right prospects for the job. People of influence are often targeted for a campaign steering committee, but the most effective committee members are those with the following traits:

Commitment to serve
A campaign steering committee prospect must be willing to attend meetings and participate in the process in an active way. You don't want a committee member whose only involvement is their name on the campaign materials. You want a campaign steering committee made up of committed individuals who are eager and willing to sacrifice their time and serve.

Commitment to give
The right person for a campaign steering committee must be someone who is willing to make a substantial gift to the campaign themselves. An individual who can lead by example sets the right tone for the committee and enhances the campaign's legitimacy in the eyes of the donor community.

Commitment to influence others
One of the roles of campaign committee members is using their influence to encourage others to join the campaign. The right individual will be willing to make calls on behalf of the campaign to people within their sphere of influence.

If you build your campaign steering committee with prospects who share these traits, you'll already be on your way to achieving your fundraising goals.
