The Campaign Coordinator:
15 Responsibilities during a Major Gifts Campaign

The Campaign Coordinator brings a focused, experienced perspective that moves the project forward. The primary responsibility of the coordinator is to oversee the fundraising work of the staff, Board and Campaign Leadership Committee during the campaign. With thorough knowledge and support of campaign details, the coordinator's work centers on the fundraising process.

The Campaign Coordinator should:

  1. Solidify, strengthen and prepare the staff and Board of Directors for the campaign
  2. Educate the Board, Campaign Leadership Committee (CLC) and staff about the fundraising process
  3. Fine tune the Case for Support
  4. Advise, coordinate, motivate and encourage the fundraising team
  5. Coordinate with staff to create fundraising management reports to keep the Board and committees informed of campaign progress
  6. Lead Board and committees through prospect rating and screening
  7. Create, with staff input, recognition strategies
  8. Develop, with staff input, recommended fundraising and campaign policies for consideration by the Board of Directors
  9. Create campaign-specific pledge and gift documents
  10. Lead development and implementation of the major gift moves strategies and lead discussions to update
  11. Train CLC members and staff on proper gift solicitations
  12. Identify obstacles to progress and offer suggestions
  13. With CLC and Executive Director, conduct monthly evaluations of the management reports and offer suggestions for obtaining objectives
  14. Ensure fundraising process - Communication, Identification, Cultivation, Invitation and Recognition - is being implemented
  15. Summarize the campaign

The Campaign Coordinator's role is crucial. The Executive Director, Development Director, CLC and Board members likely have other responsibilities; however, the Campaign Coordinator's job is focused entirely on the campaign. With the Campaign Coordinator's experience, insight and attention to detail moving the campaign forward - and with the full commitment of staff, Campaign Leadership Committee and Board - the campaign is positioned for success.
