The Campaign Leadership Committee:
15 Responsibilities during a Major Gifts Campaign

The Campaign Leadership Committee (CLC) is a committed, passionate and productive group of volunteers that sets the pace for the campaign and secures funding for the future. With the CLC focused entirely on campaign fundraising, the Board of Directors can focus on planning, construction and preserving traditional services during the campaign.

The CLC should:

  1. Make a personal stretch gift to the campaign
  2. Participate in board member educational offerings
  3. Develop and implement campaign policies related to areas such as gift acceptance and recognition
  4. Stay within the campaign budget
  5. Implement an Integrated Campaign approach that combines annual, capital and endowment fund goals
  6. Strategically apply fundraising techniques to the campaign goal
  7. Communicate with potential donors
  8. Establish the fundraising timeline in cooperation with staff and counsel
  9. Fine tune a Chart of Giving
  10. Launch a Leadership Gift planning effort
  11. Implement a Major Gift Moves Management strategy
  12. Provide periodic progress reports to the Board of Directors
  13. Solicit gifts to the campaign
  14. Recognize and appreciate donors
  15. Celebrate successes

The Staff, Board of Directors and the CLC work in support of one another as partners throughout the campaign. Through its work, the CLC expresses its genuine concern for those whose lives are positively affected by the organization's mission. With staff and counsel support, great passion, and well-thought-out plans, the CLC takes responsibility for the campaign's success, acting courageously with heart, mind and spirit.
