image The Salvation Army in Lancaster, Ohio Retains Hartsook to Guide Its Campaign

The Salvation Army – Serving Lancaster & Fairfield County (Lancaster, Ohio) has retained Hartsook to guide its fundraising campaign. The organization has demonstrated its ability to effectively identify and efficiently meet urgent human needs in Fairfield County for over 110 years. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. The Salvation Army in Lancaster has not conducted a capital campaign in over 40 years.


image Hartsook President and CEO Matthew J. Beem Earns Ph.D.

(Kansas City) Matt Beem has earned a doctor of philosophy in organizational behavior and higher education administration from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. He defended his dissertation, Performance-Based Fundraiser Compensation: An Analysis of Preference, Prevalence and Effect, in December 2018. The Fundraiser Compensation Survey, an original study, was emailed by the Mid-America Chapter of Fundraising Professionals to more than 3,000 individuals. Beem’s dissertation sheds light on the effect performance-based compensation has on the amount of money fundraisers raise. image Missouri Nonprofit Receives Sunderland Foundation Gift

Music/Arts Institute (Independence, Mo.) is the premier community school of the arts, serving the Kansas City metro and Eastern Jackson County for more than three decades. The organization has received $50,000 from the Sunderland Foundation to support its Ensemble campaign. At Music/Arts, students have access to recitals, master classes, festivals and ensembles, and they benefit from MAI’s reputation as a regional leader in arts education excellence.


image New Scout Executive and CEO for Oregon Boy Scouts of America Council

Crater Lake Council, Boy Scouts of America (Central Point, Ore.) has extended its ongoing campaign counsel contract with Hartsook to provide additional leadership and support for their campaign. The Council just announced its new Scout Executive and CEO James Westfall. Jim began his Scouting profession in 1994. He will begin his tenure with Crater Lake Council in March. His Scouting accomplishments include Eagle Scout, Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow and graduate of the Wood Badge program.

Welcome House (Kansas City) will host its 6th Annual Breakfast on April 24th at the Overland Park Convention Center. Actor and recovery advocate, Danny Trejo, will provide the keynote address. Event benefits will support the hope-filled mission of Welcome House. Through evidence-based practices in rehabilitation and providing a holistic approach unique to each resident, Welcome House changes lives for the better. Its programs go beyond just the men challenged by addiction, and impact the lives of their families and loved ones as well.

Needing more money to keep the lights on and “help people” – no matter how important the mission – is not a bold vision. Donors want to invest in something big. Raising major gifts from donors of influence and affluence requires an organization to think well beyond the day-to-day tasks. Hartsook Senior Vice President Ross J. Pfannenstiel has a strong track record of development leadership and nonprofit management. Ross worked for the Heart of America Council, Boy Scouts of America for 14 years. During his tenure with Heart of America, Ross successfully worked in all levels of field service and supervised a staff of over 30 employees covering a 19-county metropolitan area. Ross has raised millions of dollars for the Heart of America Council and his Hartsook clients during his 18-year non-profit management and development career. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration/Finance and Economics from Rockhurst University where he received the Finucane Service Scholarship for community service, the Ignatian Award for academic achievement and graduated with honors.
