Can you feel it? Change is in the air . . .
Hartsook Companies has announced new leadership! Matt Beem, MPA, CFRE (Kansas City, Mo.) has been named President and Chief Operating Officer with the understanding that in two years he will succeed me as the Chief Executive Officer, retaining his title as President.
I'm not going anywhere. I am sticking around as Chairman and CEO until 2011 and then as Chairman for the long-term, but Matt is now responsible for the day-to-day management of the firm.
Matt has earned this opportunity and we are excited about the energy and leadership he brings to this position. He received a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri and a Master of Public Administration from the Bloch School of Business at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He is expected to complete his PhD in 2010. An accomplished author and speaker, he will release his first book this winter from ASR Publishing, and is the author of a chapter on planned giving for Adrian Sargeant's definitive book on fundraising preparation; it is expected to be released in early 2010 from Jossey-Bass.
At the same time, Robert Swanson, MBA (Wichita, Kan.) has been promoted from President to Vice Chairman. Swanson has been a leader of Hartsook for many years and is known for his outstanding consulting and most recently his book, Fundraising Magic, released two years ago from ASR Publishing. In his new role Robert will have wide influence over the company's future. Robert is the founder of the Hartsook Academy - the firm's in-house training program. He has a Bachelor degree from Emporia State University and a MBA from Friends University.
New to the Hartsook leadership is Ron Loewen (Columbia, S.C.). Ron serves as Vice Chairman for Digital Strategies with a very specific assignment to guide Hartsook and the Hartsook Institutes to take advantage of the digital age. Loewen was formerly Vice President for Strategic Planning for Liberty Corporation (Greenville, S.C.) prior to its sale, and President of Liberty Life Insurance prior to its sale. Loewen has a law degree from University of Kansas.
Other members of Hartsook's leadership include Bridgette O'Conner, Senior Vice President, Kansas City, and Karin Cox, Executive Vice President, Wilmington, N.C.
Finally, I am pleased to report to you that Hartsook Companies will be officially moving its headquarters to Kansas City. For more than 20 years Hartsook has been the dominant fundraising consulting firm in KC, conducting an average of more than 50 local projects each year. Our clients have included virtually every major hospital, several universities, the largest arts venues, several national organizations based in Kansas City and many social service and youth development projects. As well, the Hartsook Institutes for Fundraising are initially being based at Avila University.
Just as the summer air carries a hint of fall excitement, a new energy is emerging. It has already arrived at Hartsook Companies. Join us in celebrating and embracing change.
Bob Hartsook, Chairman and CEO (Wrightsville Beach, N.C.)
