Steve Ross received a Community Cornerstone Award from CornerBank. In addition to his many volunteer roles, Ross served on the Campaign Leadership Committee for the Arkansas City Area Arts Council (Arkansas City, Kan.) capital campaign," Community at the Burford." The Community Cornerstone Award recognizes the time and effort of volunteers dedicated to serving people and enhancing the quality of life in Cowley County, Kan.

Labette Community College (Parsons, Kan.) president Dr. George Knox was one of 17 college presidents to receive the 2010 Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction from Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (Jackson, Miss.). Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in higher education. The award honors support for the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society on a college campus.

KarenHarenKaren Haren, Executive Director, Harvesters - The Community Food Network and a member of the Hartsook Companies Regional Advisory Council, has been named Nonprofit Professional of the Year for 2010. Nominated by the staff and Board of Harvesters - The Community Food Network, Haren will be recognized for providing outstanding leadership and fundraising success to the organization of which she has been a part for 10 years. Haren was also named 2009 Executive Director of the Year award by Feeding America, the nation's food bank network, and in January 2010 her organization was awarded the Growing Philanthropy Award for Initiative Fundraising by the Hartsook Institutes for Fundraising.

She and fellow nominees were recognized at the 26th Annual Philanthropy Awards Luncheon on May 14, 2010 in Kansas City. Also honored were Bob and Carolyn Reintjes, Philanthropists of the Year, nominated by Children's Center for the Visually Impaired and DeLaSalle Education Center; Kansas City Power & Light, Business Philanthropist of the Year, nominated by Linda Hood Talbott; and Ramon Murguia, Volunteer of the Year, nominated by the Hispanic Economic Development Corporation. Since 1985, the Philanthropy Awards Luncheon has honored more than 100 of Greater Kansas City's most generous individuals and businesses.
