Hartsook Chair in Fundraising, Indiana University (Indianopolis, Ind.); Growing Philanthropy Award for Research in Fundraising, Yen "Jen" Shang, Ph.D., Professor, Center on Philanthropy, Indiana University (Indianopolis, Ind.); Growing Philanthropy Award for Recurring Fundraising, Carsten Walter, Director, The Heritage Foundation (Washington, D.C.); Growing Philanthropy Award for Recurring Fundraising Christie Fogarty, Manager, The Heritage Foundation (Washington, D.C.); Hartsook Institutes Growing Philanthropy Award for Institutional Giving, The Kresge Foundation (Detroit, Mich.).

Labette Community College Foundation (Parsons, Kan.) announced the 10th Annual William & Allene Guthrie Van Meter Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award. The recipient is Dr. Sandra K. Willsie. Dr. Willsie graduated with honors from Labette Community College and Pittsburg State University; she received a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences.

NC-Triad Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (Greensboro, N.C.) announced its 2009 Triad AFP Philanthropy Awards. Paul J. Russ, CFRE (Greensboro, N.C.), and Associate Consultant for Hartsook Companies, received the Chapter's award for Outstanding Fundraising Professional.

The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University (Indianapolis, Ind.) honors President of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Foundation, Murray Blackwelder, and President Emeritus of the Indiana University Foundation, Curt Simic, with its most prestigious award: the Henry A. Rosso Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Ethical Fundraising.

Boy Scouts of America announced its new Scout Executives: Ponce Duran (Dallas, Texas) has been selected to serve as Regional Director for the Southern Region; Thomas R. "Tom" Harrington (Lehigh Valley, Pa.) has been selected to serve as Scout Executive for the Cradle of Liberty Council (Philadelphia, Pa.); W. Todd Walter (Cincinnati, Ohio) has been selected to serve as Scout Executive for the Central North Carolina Council (Albemarle, N.C.); and Tracy A. Techau (Cincinnati, Ohio) has been selected to serve as Scout Executive for the Atlanta Area Council (Atlanta, Ga.).

Black Hills State University (Spearfish, S.D.) received recognition by the Secretary of Education Arne Duncan for their innovative teacher education preparation program. In particular, their PRIME program was honored as a partnership with the Rapid City Schools. The program uses school-based math coaches and graduate-level courses for teachers to successfully boost math achievement among Native American students.

The University Scholars Award Program welcomed the first group of recipients to Claremont School of Theology (Claremont, Calif.). A new University Scholars Award for 2010-2011 will be designated for a Japanese-American student who meets the qualifications of TUSA. Recruitment efforts have already begun. There are currently nine students receiving TUSA scholarships.

James "Jimmy" Conrad, professional soccer player for the Kansas City Wizards and Board Member for the Kansas City Zoo (Kansas City) has been named Humanitarian of the Year for Major League Soccer.
