Giving USA released its 2010 charitable giving report earlier this summer. Notwithstanding today's tough economic times, the United States gave 3.8 percent more in 2010 than it did the previous year.

Client Victories
In this issue: More than $47 million in new or recent gifts including 12 of $1 million or greater.
University of Missouri - Kansas City had much to celebrate as they closed their fiscal year breaking many of their own records. They raised $30.13 million in gifts, including nine gifts of $1 million or more, from 19,281 donors. They have increased their percentage of alumni giving to a record 10.26 percent and increased and raised Alumni Fund totals to $721,627. Indiana University Foundation President Gene Tempel, Ph.D. recently received the Growing Philanthropy Award as Founder of the Growing Philanthropy Movement. Tempel, who was nominated by Association of Fundraising Professionals President and Chief Executive Officer Andrew Watt, received the prestigious national award at the first Growing Philanthropy Summit, sponsored by the Hartsook Chair at Indiana University, Blackbaud, Hartsook Companies and Hartsook Institutes at the Hay-Adams in Washington, DC.

Days of Service
Hartsook Gives Back
Hartsook and Hartsook Institutes' Growing Philanthropy Days of Service provide nonprofits, typically with budgets less than $200,000, free access to some of the nation's most successful and knowledgeable fundraising consultants. Growing Philanthropy Days of Service are held in partnership with community foundations and other educational or nonprofit leaders. Through discussions about their most pressing fundraising challenges, nonprofit executives, development directors and board members receive advice that will lead their organization to grow philanthropy to fulfill their missions.

Welcome Aboard
Jim Brandmeyer (Mission Hills, KS) recently joined Hartsook as an Associate Consultant. Jim previously led fundraising efforts at Menorah Medical Center, UMKC and the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Penny Coggins (Mustang, OK) has joined Hartsook as a Vice President and serves clients with government grant writing. She specializes in U.S. Department of Education proposals.

Hartsook Institutes
The Hartsook Institutes for Fundraising was founded in 2009 by Bob Hartsook. It serves as a voice and vehicle for a knowledge and research-based approach to fundraising education. The approach was pioneered by the first Hartsook Chair in Fundraising at Indiana University Adrian Sargeant, and the applications of that and other research in fundraising by Bob Hartsook and Hartsook Companies, Inc.
