A Scout is Reverent

Reverent: Showing deep and solemn respect. To treat with high regard and veneration.

Scouts know how to have fun; they know how to enjoy the beauty of the world around them, and they also recognize there are times when sober reflection, solemnity and respect are most appropriate. Showing deep and solemn respect is a timeless characteristic of Scouting.

Ask Hartsook!

Do you have a tough fundraising question?
Send your questions to [email protected] and we will respond by email. Your question may be featured in a future eHartsook on Scouting.

QUESTION:We're new to major gift fundraising and it sounds a little intimidating. Any tips?

Major gift fundraising comes with a cost of time, effort and a learning curve, but the investment is well worth the effort. Since we know it takes money to raise money, it is important to invest the money wisely. Major gift donors expect more from nonprofits than a form letter or signature event. Once you identify good prospects, connect them personally with the organization. Find ways to show you care about the donor's support without asking for anything in return. Take time to ask prospective donors open-ended questions: "How did you first get involved with the organization? What drew you to us?" Then, follow that thread of discussion to a natural and specific ask.
