Serious, sincere, approachable and inquisitive are just some of the traits that make Laurie Walker one of Hartsook Companies' most valued contributors. As Vice President for Business Development, Laurie handles inquiries from prospective clients seeking campaign counsel, annual fund advice, Fundraising Management or support in other areas of development.

In many cases, when organizations contact Hartsook Companies they aren't certain what type of counsel they need. With the thoroughness of a physician filling out a new patient intake form, she gathers information from prospects to diagnose their needs and determine which services - and consultant - will provide them with the best results. In all cases, from proposal writing to contract signing, she works directly with consultants to show potential clients the many ways in which Hartsook Companies can help them achieve their goals.

"I take great pleasure in really listening to a prospective client tell about their organization's mission, its challenges and its expectations for how we can help," says Laurie. "I take great pride in designing strategies to ensure we ultimately provide them with the services most specific to their needs."

Laurie's sharp mind, thirst for knowledge and commitment to excellence go beyond getting materials to consultants or prospects on time, at any time. Her skills are utilized within the firm for technology support and training; capturing and managing information. Applying her background in database development and management, Laurie ensures the availability of complete and current information on the status of relationships with prospective clients. She develops and devises prospect-related support and sales materials.

Before joining Hartsook Companies, she held various accounting and payroll positions for over nine years at Wichita-based Koch Industries, the second largest privately held company in the United States. While there, she designed a database to track payables still used by the company today.

Laurie began her career as assistant to the president of Columbian Securities Corp. and later served as placement director for graduates of a technical training school. Currently she is pursuing a bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Phoenix.

She and her husband, Guinn, reside in Wichita with their two daughters, Sunny and Sierra.
