Since its inception in 1990, Shelly has been an integral part of the firm's growth from a single consultant to now more than 30 consultants in 17 cities doing business in 40 states across the country. At the core of this successful national firm is the senior executive vice president and chief administrative officer. In this capacity, Shelly oversees and manages all firm activities, including fiscal affairs, client relations, human resources, marketing, educational programming, publishing, communications and the day-to-day operations of the firm. Shelly is staunchly proud of her contribution to building a company that is firmly rooted in superior service and quality client relations. Shelly explains, "Hartsook Companies is ONLY successful because our clients are successful. Our consultants are smart, hard working and are supported with every resource possible to fulfill clients' needs." Philanthropy is an ever-changing field. According to Shelly, "What makes us unique is that we never settle. In philanthropy there are always new and creative ways of giving that need to be researched and understood, new and better ways of researching prospects, new foundations and other funders, downturns in the economy that must be overcome through new and unique strategies. It is our responsibility to make sure our clients have the best information and resources available at all times." Bob and Shelly began working together in 1985 when he was vice president for institutional advancement at Wichita State University and she was an assistant to the University's president. Recognizing her strengths in administration and donor relations, Bob recruited Shelly in 1988 to assist in the University's $100 million campaign effort -- one of the largest in the country at that time. In her work at the University, Shelly was involved with top-level donor solicitations, public gift announcements, recognition activities and special events. Shelly believes strongly in the power of philanthropy to not only change a person's life, but in doing so, to change the world in a small way. Shelly says, "The stories from clients about the impact of their successes make you feel really good about the world which makes for a wonderful work environment." Shelly holds a bachelor's degree in administration of justice and an associate of arts degree in sociology from Wichita State University and is an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She and her husband, Tim, have two children, Austin and Aubrey. |
